Bike Trip Day 60: Columbus to Brookville, IN

Biking: 67 miles

This is our last day in Indiana before crossing into Ohio tomorrow. The climbing today was mild, and that’s a good thing because my knee is still giving me a lot of trouble. I made it to the end of the ride, but it’s not looking good.

The temperature in the morning was cool, but it warmed up to about 78 in the afternoon. A good day for riding.

We stopped for lunch in Batesville, IN at a restaurant called Big Four Cafe. They serve breakfast all day, and even though I had eggs for breakfast, I ordered an omelet. I can’t pass up the chance to get a good omelet. The food was great. We seem to have good luck with cafes on our rides. Every day we say this is the best food or best latte…but then we chuckle and admit that we’re really hungry. That seems to make food taste better.

After lunch, we rode to a pharmacy to get an Ace bandage so I could wrap my knee. That seemed to help and got me through the rest of the ride. I was really hurting at the end, and for the first time, my knee was hurting even when I walked. It seems that cycling is making it worse. I don’t even want to think about what that might mean.

In all the miles we’ve ridden and the thousands of cows that we’ve seen, this is the first time we saw Longhorns. Didn’t expect to see them in Indiana.

We had a good ride today, and look forward to moving to the next state tomorrow.
