Biking: 61 Miles
Today was another hot day, and the last of three days of tough climbing on the road. Looking at the scheduled route, we realized it was full of steep rollers. But, studying the map, we found an alternative route, on Rt 65, with the same distance but half the climbing.
But, riding on a highway can be tricky. Sometimes the berm disappears and you’re riding on the road with fast-moving trucks. Fortunately, Anita and Mark found that wasn’t the case today. The road had a reasonable berm all the way from Carrollton to Sedalia.
Sedalia is one of the trailheads for the Katy Trail, and we’re getting onto the trail tomorrow for a three-day ride.

Because of the heat, and my episode yesterday, I sat out today. That’s the nice thing about three people riding together. If one person is injured or under the weather, it doesn’t hold the group back. Anita and Mark were able to complete the ride today.
Tomorrow we hit the Katy Trail and ride 50 miles to Rocheport, a small town on the trail, with restaurants and coffee shops. The temperatures should be in the 90s again, but I think we’ll mostly be under tree cover on the trail. We’ll see how it goes.
