Riding: 64 miles
Today was a scorcher. So hot. No clouds and no shade. Again, we rode the rolling hills of Missouri, but unlike yesterday’s ride which had cloud cover and mild temps, today was just brutal.
With a real feel of 105 near the end of the ride, I was starting to experience heat stroke symptoms – dizzy, disoriented, headache and high heart rate that wouldn’t drop even when I stop biking. Fortunately, I did make it to the campground before things got too bad. But, with the high temps again tomorrow, I might need to take it easy.
This past week has been a rough one for us. I had a physical issue that kept me off the bike one day last week. Today, Anita’s back (an old injury) was acting up, so she had to skip today’s ride. Mark is the only one who hasn’t had a problem yet. But, with the storms, climbing, and now heat, we’ve had to overcome more challenges this week than others.
One more day of climbing in the heat before we hit the Katy Trail which will be a welcome relief.
