Biking: 52 miles
Our first day on the Katy Trail – what an amazing trail. We started at the Katy Depot near the northeast end of Sedalia and rode all the way to Rocheport, stopping at a few of the towns along the way.
The surface was mostly crushed limestone. It reminded me of the GAP trail.
The temperature was a scorcher again today, but fortunately, we were mostly in the shade under tree cover.
Many of the towns on the route provide a trailhead with shaded benches, information about local services, a map, and sometimes a bathroom.
The biggest town on our route today was Boonville, which still had it’s train depot and even a train.
Near the end of our ride, it was getting hot, and there were a few miles without any tree cover. We were glad to get to Rocheport and meet Brian with the RV, and our supplies.
Tomorrow is a long day, 80 miles. We’re hoping the tree cover and the relatively flat surface will make it a good day of biking. The temps are supposed to top out at 84 degree, so hopefully not as hot as the last few days. We’re really liking the Katy Trail and look forward to seeing more.
