Riding: 58 miles
Another day of storms. We got a late start to our ride as we needed to wait out the storms.
The RWGPS predicted a lot of climbing, and it wasn’t wrong. My Wahoo computer typically underreports our climbing, and it said about 3800 in 58 miles, but really, it was closer to 4100 in 58 miles. That’s a lotta climbing.
It’s difficult to explain how exhausting the climbing was. It seemed every time we crested a hill, we could see that we had an even steeper climb coming up.
But, it was a pretty ride through the farmlands in Missouri.
Because of all the climbing we were moving at a slower pace than predicted, and we were losing daylight. Luckily Brian was nearby and rescued us near the end. We arrived in Gallatin just as the sun was setting, not a good time to be on country roads on a bike.
During this trip, we’ve climbed a handful of mountain passes, but without a doubt, this was harder riding. With a good night’s sleep, we’ll probably be ready to face two more days of this terrain.
