Bike Trip Day 34: Douglas to Lusk

Biking: 60 miles

The day started with a bit of a reroute, adding a few miles to our day.

Three miles into our ride, we came to the Richard Street Bridge – closed. So we found a way around, on a bike path along the river.

That led us to another bridge. As we crossed, there appeared to be men’s underwear strung along the railing for the length of the bridge. My first thought was – fraternity – but turns out to be a promotion for cancer awareness, particularly prostate cancer.

The ride today wasn’t particularly notable except for the incredible tailwind again. We could get used to it. 60 miles with the wind at our backs most of the way.

After our visit to Jeffrey City last weekend, Anita and Mark found a video on Youtube about the 10 weirdest towns in Wyoming. Number 1 was, of course, Jeffrey City. But, another city on the list was Lost Springs, and that was on our route today.

We stopped at the ghost town that only has six residents and one open business, a store. But unfortunately for us, today the store was closed. A sign on the door said we could call Art, and he would come open it. But, we decided not to bother him. Instead, we took a picture and got back on the road.

We make it to Lusk quickly, thanks to the tailwind. Tomorrow we cross into Nebraska, and the wind situation doesn’t look as promising. I guess we can’t ride a tailwind all the way to DC.
