RV Trip Day 7: Mt Rushmore to Cody, WY

Countdown to cross-country biking: 18 days

Good news. The tire shop was able to replace our RV’s damaged tire quickly this morning. Well, technically, they replaced all four rear tires. Not cheap, but we’re on our way with four good tires.

We were on the road by 9:30 am and finally pulled into the Cody KOA at 7:15 pm. This was our longest day of driving. And, another opportunity to learn about RV travel. Today’s lesson, even if Google Maps and RV Life App tell you to take a “scenic” route, you really should stick with the boring highway.

I can tell you from first-hand experience that climbing the roads of Big Horn National Park is breathtaking…unbelievable beautiful. I would share pictures, but I was white knuckling the steering wheel, so the RV didn’t fly off a cliff as we climbed 9500 feet only to be met with road construction. I did get a picture of that, because I just needed evidence that the driving COULD get scarier. But, descending was worse…lots of twists and turns on 6-10% grades. OK, to be fair, it was so beaufiful I don’t even regret it. I just regret not having more pictures to share.

In the ends, we arrived at the Cody KOA safe and sound, with only minimal wear to our RV’s transmission.

We are excited to meet up with Brynn here on Thursday for a four-day adventure at Yellowstone.
