Countdown to cross-country biking: 19 days
We made a bit of a change to the schedule. Originally, we planned to take an extra day at the Badlands, but with temps over 100 degrees, we decided to keep moving and take a day off when we reach Cody, WY, after our one-day stop at Mount Rushmore.
But, before we pulled out of the campground, I took a quick ride through part of the Badlands. It was pretty early here (around 6:30 am), but it was already getting hot, and the wind was brutal. But, the views are amazing!

The temps at Mount Rushmore were a little better, high of 95 degrees. Looking ahead, the temps drop over the next few days, and that will be a welcome change.

The travel has been a bit stressful, and we’re both looking forward to a day of not traveling. Today was only about 2 hours of driving, so we decided to stop at Mount Rushmore but then travel another 2 hours to get us closer to our location for a day of rest – Cody, WY.
As we were leaving the monument, we noticed one of our back tires was very low. Bad news, even after pumping it up, it’s losing air. So, looks like we’ll be staying near Mount Rushmore today after all. We found a garage that will replace the tire in the morning. Fingers crossed that it’s a quick job. We’ve got a 6-1/2 hour drive tomorrow, a long drive in an RV.
