Bike Trip Day 58: Bedford to Columbus, IN

Biking: 40 miles

Another beautiful day biking in the Indiana farmland and through the woods. Today’s ride was great until about half way through when we hit some killer hills, up to 13 percent grade. But, it wrapped up with a nice paved trail through the outskirts of Columbus and right into the downtown area near Anita and Mark’s hotel.

Again, the campground that we stayed at was out of town, so Anita and Mark rode almost 10 miles to meet up with me. I’ve reported 40 miles above, but for them it was more like 50 miles.

This morning I hit my knee on a corner of the countertop in the RV. The impact was hard enough to break the skin. It really hurt, but I assumed it was like hitting my funny bone…it hurts a lot at first, but it’s not really a problem. The knee didn’t give me any problems on the ride at first, but when we hit the hills, it started to throb. As we continued, it got worse and worse. Fortunately, tomorrow is a rest day, so I’m hoping it will be back to normal by Tuesday.

RWGPS continues to amuse us, as it warned of gravel roads that were actually paved. And, it sent us up this steep “paved” climb that was actually a remote gravel road. Fortunately, we’re seasoned gravel cyclists riding gravel bikes, so it wasn’t too much for us. But, someone on a road bike would likely be walking for miles.

My Oakley glasses didn’t charge last night, so I wasn’t able to take videos and photos of the ride today. But, Mark snapped a shot of Anita and me pausing at the top of the gravel climb.

Tomorrow is a much needed rest day. Then, we’re back on the bikes heading into later this week Ohio.

RWGPS for today:
