Over 2500 miles completed so far. We are about to cross into Illinois, and then it’s only Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Maryland to go.

I’ve mentioned before that rest days are days off the bike but not necessarily restful. We spend a lot of time cleaning and prepping. And, that’s often when we make reservations for the following week – Anita and Mark for hotels and Brian and me for campgrounds.
But, when you’re on sabbatical, your rest days are also work days. I spend quite a bit of time on my rest day in work meetings or doing something for work. I don’t mind, really. I’m just grateful to have the time away from the office after a grueling year!
Today I also had to make a long trip (about an hour each way) to a bike shop across town to pick up a new saddle for one of my bikes. I enjoy visiting the bike shops in the towns we pass through. They’re all so different. This one – the Bike Surgeon – had some of the most expensive bikes I’ve ever seen in real life (wish I had taken pictures of the bikes). It was fun just looking around at all the cool stuff in this shop.

Our routes are planned, reservations made, and we’re ready to tackle another week on the bike.
