Bike Trip Day 32: Rest Day

One of the nice things about rest days is getting to focus on something besides eating, biking, and sleeping. Today, I’m looking at the mileage that we’ve covered so far.

That’s 1400 miles of riding, more than 1/3 of the way across. We estimate we’ll be 1/2 way by next Monday. It’s like most things…the days are long, but the weeks are passing quickly. I’m glad to have this blog so I can go back and remember all the amazing places we’ve ridden already.

On training rides earlier this year, Anita and I would sometimes talk about parts of the trip we dreaded the most. For both of us the worst is the long slog through Nebraska. In fact, we started referring to things we dislike as “Nebraska” – a ride in the heat is so “Nebraska” or a strong headwind is just “Nebraska.” Well, later this week we’re heading into Nebraska. I really hope Nebraska proves us wrong. How about some mild weather and a nice tailwind? Maybe?

That’s it for now. We’re prepping for tomorrow, gathering our on-bike snacks, checking our route, charging our tech, and loading our packs. Tomorrow starts another six days of riding, finishing our Wyoming segment and starting into Nebraska.
