RV Trip Days 20-24: Missoula to La Push, WA

Countdown to cross-country biking: 1 day

We’re finally in La Push, WA, after a 24-day trip across the country with so many great experiences along the way – Yellowstone, Badlands, Mount Rushmore, five days of biking in Montana, and now the Pacific coast. Wow.

Between Missoula and La Push, we stopped at the Wanapum State Park here in Washington State. What an amazing place! The campground is right on the Columbia River.

I took some time to check out one of the trails that we’ll be riding on our way back. Like so much of this part of the west, it’s dry, hot but beautiful.

I should add that the highlight of our time in Missoula was having dinner with some friends from State College – Sabine and Roger – who just moved to Missoula. They hosted us at their house for dinner, and fed us some of the best salmon I’ve ever had. It was nice to get together with friends and sit at a table in a house, like civilized people, after 20+ days living in an RV.

So, tomorrow is the big day, August 1, 2026. A day we’ve been planning for the past three years. Can’t believe it’s finally here.

Anita and Mark arrived in Washington State last Saturday, and spent some time visiting family here. We saw them for the first time last night to pick up some of their gear. And, today, they spent a few hours organizing the bins we carried for them in the RV. They loaded their bikes (and oh boy did they look loaded!). I think we’re just about ready for the next phase of our big adventure.

Tomorrow we leave from the beach in La Push. We’ll dip our rear tires in the Pacific Ocean and take off for the Atlantic Ocean, or at least the river in DC.
