Bike Trip Day 30: Jeffrey City to Alcova

Biking: 76 miles

Like yesterday, today was crazy windy. Up to 25 mph winds, and that can really slow you down or, if you’re lucky, make your day pretty easy.

For us, we dealt with some mild crosswinds for the first 10 miles, but the next 14 miles felt like a repeat of yesterday, trying to stay upright and not get blown into the road. But, at mile 24…ahhhh…we turned east. And the next 52 miles were amazing. We were averaging 20 mph on the bike without much effort. It almost felt like riding downhill. That makes for a really good day.

I didn’t mention earlier that Brian has been sick, so I decided to send him on to Casper (our destination for tomorrow), so he can have a day of rest. I stayed in an AirBNB in Alcova with Anita and Mark. We researched in advance and realized there are no restaurants, gas stations, or grocery stores within 10 miles of the AirBNB, so we had to bring our own dinner.

We stopped at the last convenience store and luckily they had pizza that we could order for takeout. Great, but how are we carrying it 11 miles to the apartment?

My creative friends always have a solution. Just tie it to the rack.

Anita carrying the most precious cargo of all…our dinner. We were careful not to go too fast or hit any debris in the berm.

I’m happy to report that the pizza made it intact, and it was delicious. We had a good dinner and a relaxing night at the AirBNB.

Tomorrow is a short day, just 25 miles to Casper.

  1. Wow – SO windy! Almost harder than the mountains.

Anita has a future as a pizza delivery driver!
