Bike Trip Day 24: Henry’s Lake to Ashton, ID

Biking: 53 miles

Brian and I stayed at the beautiful Henry’s Lake in Idaho just west of Yellowstone.

I biked from the campground to the resort where Anita and Mark stayed, just down the road, and then we took off for Ashton, ID. The first part of our route took us mostly on Route 20, with a few side roads and gravel roads. Route 20 was a little sketchy, with a shoulder that kept shrinking and then expanding periodically.

We were glad when we reached the Mesa Scenic Highway about 25 miles into the route. The highway runs past two waterfalls, the upper Mesa and lower Mesa falls. Unfortunately, the road to the upper falls was closed, but we were able to get to the lower falls. It was a nice break, and a chance to get off the bike and eat our lunch.

Not a lot of climbing today, but tomorrow is a different story. We’re climbing a mountain pass from Ashton and descending into the Grand Tetons. Should be amazing.
