Biking: 20 miles
A short day. The smoke has finally interfered with our route. We started out in Cheney, near Spokane, where the air quality has been very poor. Brian offered to drive us to Plummer, a place where the air quality was in the yellow. Not perfect, but so much better than in the red.
We picked up the Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes, named for a Native American Tribe that still has a reservation in this spot.
The trail weaves through the woods then along the Coeur d’Alene Lake, over a bridge, and right to Harrison, ID, our destination for two nights.
I figured out how to add music to the videos. Trying to up my game here.
We’re staying in Harrison, ID, for a scheduled rest day, though I’m not sure we need to rest after a 20-mile day. What we do need is to look ahead at the route to make sure it’s clear of heavy smoke and wild fires.
Harrison is a great little town on the water with restaurants, a dock, and a bike shop. The brakes on my bike were grinding, so the mechanic took a look at them, cleaned things up, made some adjustments, and recommended that I have my rotor replaced in the next couple weeks to address the issue. Luckily, my bike will be on a week-long vacation in Missoula while we fly home to get Brynn set up for the fall semester. So, I’m planning to have the work done then.
While he was fixing my bike, I stopped in next door at the coffee shop and relaxed with an iced Americano. I texted Brian that I’m in my happy place – bike shop/coffee shop. If only they had a bookstore.
Another day in the books. We’re heading to Wallace on Wednesday, then Superior, and then Missoula. Excited for the next few segments of the trip, though I can’t imagine they will be more beautiful than what we’ve been experiencing.
