Biking: 75 miles
Day two is in the books. We continued on the Olympic Discovery Trail to its end, and then rode about 20 miles more to reach Port Ludlow. It was another good day for riding, low 60s with some sunshine.
The trail weaved along the coast and back through the woods, across bridges and even across the highway a few times.
We spent a lot of time looking at our bike computers and phones to keep track of the trail. It would suddenly end at a crossroad and then start again down the block, or maybe it would start a couple miles down the road. It was hard to tell sometime. We were on high alert, looking for signs and watching the map on our phones. Sometimes we had conflicting information, but somehow we always found the trail.

We stopped for lunch in Sequim at the Rainshadow Cafe, and I tried their award winning espresso. Oh my goodness! This might be my new favorite. I picked up a pound of the espresso blend coffee, but I didn’t have anywhere to carry it. Anita graciously offered to carry it in her bike pannier…and the extra pound didn’t slow her down. Mark and I were still chasing her up the hills.

On a related note, the Keurig I was using in the RV stopped working a few weeks ago. I resorted to pour over coffee, and I have say, I really like it. There’s something about having to heat up the water and measure the coffee grounds that just seems right before a long day of biking. Can’t wait to give this coffee a try tomorrow.
Our plan for tomorrow was to ride to Kingston in the morning and take the fast ferry to Seattle. We just saw a notification that the ferry is cancelled for tomorrow due to mechanical issues. Not sure what we’re going to do now. I’ll let you know.
